Mayor of Walsall Message at the Mayor’s Parlour presentation..
I was pleased to host The Rotary Club of Walsall Centenary Young Writers Competition 2022 prize presentation at the Mayor’s Parlour on the morning of Wednesday 27 April 2022. It was lovely to meet the Rotarians, school children and parents, and school representatives.
The competitions was aimed at 7 to 11 year olds who were invited to write a story or a poem entitle ‘How can we save planet Earth’ with each entry receiving a certificate and special awards for the winners.
The first presentation of the Best Project Prize, was made by President Mukunda and Environmental officer Ujwala from the Rotary Club, and went to County Bridge School for their extraordinary entries, all 111 of them, across a range of age groups.
I made the next presentation with Past President Deepshika Kapoor from the Rotary Club of First Prize in the Junior Section which went to Natalia Kosierek of Goldsmith Primary Academy.
Runshi Yuan of Park Hall Junior School was unfortunately absent
Rotarian and judge Glynnis Jeavons from Parking services joined me to present the second Prize to Ali Ejaz of County Bridge School. The final presentation, with Fiona Burgess from the Rotary club for third place was awarded to Mahima Bhuiyan of Blue Coat School.
I was delighted to be given a beautiful bouquet of yellow carnations with a blue ribbon representing Rotary colours by Nataila, Ali and Mahima – what a lovely gesture. It was a lovely morning with the opportunity to celebrate the hard work of the budding young writers involved in the competition. Well done to all involved and to all those children that took part and especially to the winners – I look forward to seeing more from you all!
